I'm really confused how you think this system handicaps better owners. The current system gives well known owners a massive advantage over new owners. My system gives nobody an advantage to start the season. If you're an experienced owner and you know certain players have intangibles that newer owners don't know about, look for those players and traderape the new owners. AThat's how they learn. All my setup doees is keep new owners from getting shafted by players refusing to play for them because they're unknown owners.

Look at how this league is divided up for this season. If ur on a team like phx, u already know u have a good chance of winning the cup...If ur on vancouver or minnesota (like me) uu already know the odds are stacked heavily against u. Just making the playoffs will be a nice accomplishment for either of these teams. Wouldn't it be nice if EVERY team in the league could look at their roster and see a few elite nqmes and believe if they played well, their team had a chance to win the cup?

Bid on those players anyways, if they won't play for you you can always trade them for something or just plain have them blacklisted simple as that, not the other owners fault that newbies won't take control of their team and manage it

This is a sim style league which means there are going to be really good teams, average teams, and bad teams. Not every NHL team will have the same shot at playoffs or a title run as the others, some teams end up surprising you, under your system everyone is even steven and gets a participation trophy

    God Dammit Pensman,

Pensmans system is stable but in no way is it among the best systems to use. Probably not even top 10. Just a little history lesson for you boys and girls. This ranking system was basically used in early VHL when I was a young and bicurious owner. One major problem about ranking systems is players change from year to year. The same elite player with no life is a stud one year and a married man with a full time job dud the next year. So you end up having a dud with a stud contracts all over the place.

Yet another good obvious point. Pensmans system would cause more players sending trade request and a lot more work for Owners.

My personal favorite arguement against this system.

Our system is great. Every owner has the opportunity to do well in this system. The site alone offers every owner with multiple tools to become successful. If an owner can not use these tools properly and fail, well, not everyone is meant to become an owner.

As you have stated multiple times Pensman, you are elite. I look forward to seeing the Wild prosper with you leading the way. Go Wild.

People keep bringing up this response over and over, but they never have a counter argument to when we point out that when they blacklist their best players for refusing to play, not only do they doom their team for the season for all intents and purposes, but they also lower the skill level of the entire league by taking some of the best players out of it. It's a lose/lose proposition to any new or unskilled owner that a skilled owner doesn't even have to worry about (And when i say skilled I mean good at the buttons, not necessarily management skills). They can try to trade them, but because of their big contract only certain teams will be in the market, and the few that are will be essentially using forced trade rape. If this league wants to develop new owners and expand it's pool of talented owners, It should seriously consider taking out some of the obstacles that make it so hard for a new owner to have success.

The disparity in skill levels among nhl teams is caused my ownership strategies not random occurance. The Florida Panthers could be a much better team every season, but the owners choose to put out a team just above the league minimum salary because he cares about profits before team success. The money issues that occur in real life are irrelevant in our league. If all teams in real hockey had no money concerns, the league would be just like mine where every team had the same opportunity to sign star players like crosby/ovechkin, and who won the cupp would be a 30 team battle every season. We are in a fortunate position to not have to worry about generating revenues to cover operating costs (except for nuge), so we should all have the opportunity to build the same calibre teams.

Also I don't understand this participation trophy argument...You act like if we start all teams on an equal footing, then at the end of the season the team that finishes last should feel just about as good as the team that won the cup. That's just nonsense. If anything, under my system, the team that wins the cup should feel even more proud of their accomplishment because of how tight all teams were at the start of the season, and the last place team should be pretty dejected they started with just as good of a team as every other owner n let it fall apart.

You're right. It's not the experienced owners fault the new owners can't take control of their team. It's partially the fault of the leqgue to let all owners and management have a 0$ contract which neglects widely varied skill levels between managers, and it's partially the fault of these whiny players refusing to play for new owners before they even give them a chance to prove themselves. The management skill level disparity can be solved fairly easily under my system. The whiny players will always be whiny, but they have less reason to be whiny before the season even starts when they know their team is just as skilled as every other team, which is the case under my system.

I'll play well for my 3 games a week. I'll consider it a huge success if we make the playoffs. If we win the cup I'm immediately dumping my entire savings into lottery tickets.

In hockey you have shitty owners for example, Eugene Melnyk; and on the other hand you have great owners like Rocky Wirtz. Welcome to FUCKIN LIFE. Not everything is fair and balanced. Take your rose colored glasses off and get REAL. I go to work everyday for 8-10 hours and get taxes taken out so some ~*~* lazy fucker can stay home and collect unemployment and play video games all day. Is that fair? Fuck no its not. Go coach a youth soccer team they're always looking for coaches because no one wants to coach a team that was made for them.

This idea is not in the interest of fairness to everyone like you're trying to make it seem. How is it fair for a smart and proven owner to only be allowed to snag three "gold" players when he knows that his team would be better with more. Its a flawed system and would never work. So can you please stop trying to defend it.
P.s. Florida's owner doesn't ice a shitty team because he cares more about profits he ices a shitty team because he has never seen a sellout crowd ever in his life except at an away game.

It's not broken. There's just a thread about whether or not vancouver is gonna get more or less than 11.5 wins before bidding is even finished because the system is working great.

You say get real, but this league isn't being real in the first place. Dustin Brown is one of the greatest captain in the NHL right now, but do you think he would still be captain if the nhl said teams could hide 2 contracts from the salary cap by making them captain/alternate? Hell no. Kopita4 would be captain, and either dought or quick or whoever else has a massive contract would be an alternate, so no, this league is not being real in any way shape or form. The ability to hide their contract makes skilled players appear to be better owners than some when in actuality they've just got an extra $20 million in salary cap over the new guy. Why would you think that's a good way to run a league? I mean, personally I hope to hell real hockey adopts this policy, cuz the Pens will pick up a free 19 million in cap space next season to sign even more talent, but I don't think the owners would go for it because it's pretty obvious that's not fair.

That may very well be the WORST example ever. In this league AGMs are the closest thing to a NHL captain. HEY GUESS WHAT! We have contracts

Umm, no...In the real nhl the actual owners of the team and the gm of the team don't take up a roster spot and their salary doesn't count toward the team's salary cap, so the closest comparison to our owners/gmswould be the captains/alternate captains on the team. They are the leaders in the locker room, they deal with the officials, and like my original point said, to let a team get away with having 2 roster players have no contract to count against the cap would make big market teams salivate. You know kane/toews would have gotten 20 mill$ contract offers from the rangers, then given no cap hit and the rangers would immediately vault to best team in the league.

I can't really continue this argument if you're gonna try to tell me giving a mgmt team of sju and Ian Morando the same $0 cap hit as m management team of 2 new owners who would go for 500k in bidding gives both teams an equal chance of building a team that can compete for the cup, because that is just plain naive.

Cry me a river. They wanted to play together and put together a good team not just because they're great players but because they know good players and were smart where they spent there money. Its completely fair what they do because its done every year and no one complains except kids like you who end on with owners who would be 500k get good and get a good owner to notice you.
