Guys, guys... come now, come now. Who cares if it's not much different from 2k4? You forget -- ESPN NFL 2k4 is perfection on which improvement is simply not possible. I'm not being sarcastic, either.
Well, I must say that I have some mixed emotions here. How the hell could these things go unnoticed if in fact what Darthor says is true? All the previews I have read talked how kick-ass this game was. A casual fan of the series would certainly note such flaws in the gameplay as they have been well documented. Only hope is some kind of patch I guess. This sucks as I'm certain that Madden will play very similar to NCAA. It could turn out to be a very short football season for me.
I think all these "conclusions" drawn before the game is in your hands is a bit hasty, no? Personally, I'm glad they didn't dumb down the defense.
I'm not surprised. What did you guys expect to hear? Everyone says how dull Madden is, look at 2k5, they havent added anything innovative either. I get so tired of people how "cliche" Madden is, never changing, LOL, niether is ESPN. And I'm shocked about how you guys think the Vikings aren't very good...they had the best offense last year, and it got even better. Marcus Robinson steps into the #2 spot, complementing Moss, Wiggins is our #2 TE who can stretch the field a bit. On D we got Winfield, a very good Brian Williams, 2 safeties who combined for 17 interceptions and and Kevin Williams at DT with Udeze at End. Should be a VERY interesting season...
Thank you CanEHdian for the info and if you could post the Seahawks overall rating that would be great too. THnaks.
Well, I certainly don't mean either of you any disrespect but you're turning a blind eye to the blatant flaws of 2K4. I'm as big a fan of the series as anyone but know without a doubt the game needed to address a few issues. From early impressions, it would seem VC has fallen short of expectations. A few weeks with the game and we'll know for sure.
No offense but the broken tackles not being fixed? Unacceptable...ESPN 2K4 was not perfect, it was simply the only decent onlin football game. It had it's major issues.
A fully charged tackle will 9/10 take anyone down... I rarely saw anyone charge. What I saw was people let the computer run towards the ball carrier, then take control and immediately dive. That's not gonna do it. What's gonna do it is taking control of a defender before the snap, get into position, charge, and make the play yourself. You're right -- uncharged tackles were more often than not broken -- it forces you to make the play yourself rather than rely on the computer. I hope it's the same way in 2k5. But yeah, we'll see how it pans out. I hope you guys all give it a chance.
I try to charge my tackles but often it seems like there isnt enough time for the charge to take effect before the tackler reachers the ball carrier. Unless im doing something stupid.
Well, I so desperately want to be better at this game but despite hours and hours of play, I got blown out all the time. Whenever I've tried taking control of a player, a blocker always picks me up. If anyone that's a top notch player that would be interested in showing me some pointers on-line, I'm your boy.
Yeah, the only way the charge would work is if you were lucky enough to control a defender that happened to be the first guy near the ball carrier. If the play went the other direction, you're out of luck and have to switch to the closest man (where you don't have time to charge). IMO, there shouldn't be an effort meter in tackling, it should either work or not and it's up to the ball carrier to do the button mashing in order to break tackles and make a big play. With 2k4, it was the other way around where the ball carrier could just easily shoulder charge on cruise control and the defender had to be some sort of joystick combo freak in order to pull off a solo open field tackle.
I agree Jon. Amen brother. Let's face it, big runs in the NFL happen with some great blocking or busted assignments or simply flat-out speed after getting to the outside. They don't routinely happen from multiple missed tackles or a back running over people.
I'm sure ESPN will given a fair chance since it's the encumbant game, but so will Madden. It makes it easier to try both with ESPN being so cheap and being the first one on the market.
If you control the ILB, you'll always in position to make a tackle. Leonard Little however, may not be in position to make the tackle.
