I have to disagree, because being too fast on defense results in more sliding around the ice when people bump into you. So it may not always be the best. Good build, otherwise.

hi. defenseman here. i see a lot of you big name D-men don't use offense awareness. i've always used it out of habit, but is it essentially not important? i've always felt like it helps with passing, shooting, controlling the puck, etc, but then again i could just be a noob.

Would you rather have OA, or SSP? It's all preference.

SSP, preferably. I just re-made my build a bit ago taking a little from column A, a little from column B here. No OA, and I can't really notice any difference. That's interesting.

Pretty sure with HT/WT you don't need strength to plow over people, just putting that out there. Not saying strength is useless though.

Does no one like prefer to play defensive d-man? I play two-way myself, but are defensive d-man really that useless?

OA is good on d if you're doing lots of lateral passes, behind the back, etc. Dev's said it does this, and acts as a general modifier for the rest of the offensive stats like shooting, passing, puck control etc. DA is the same, it just adds a slight boost to body checking, poke checking, etc... They said thats the reason adding OA/DA makes your overall go up so quickly, as it's effectively adding points in multiple categories.

Defensive-D is doable, if you go 9th wonder style, 6"5, max agility, speed, and fastest skates. Then just abuse the poke check. The skating isn't that bad as long as you max a few categories. I actually played an entire VHL season with that build last year and had one of the most points that season as defense.

Super defensive. Great for a d-man that stays back and amazing in the d zone. Also has a killer clapper that will shatter glass if you miss ;)
