With s40 being a roster reset, I believe they should also be resetting the owners list to filter out the shitters and allow themselves the choose the best 32 candidates. Currently, if you own a team or are GM of a team, you get first dibs at returning the following season, I believe a reset will attract more top end talent, and we should reset all the owners along with the rosters, make everyone apply for owner who is interested, and choose the top 32 candidates. I currently see 10+ teams with people who suck as their owners, and have definitely been getting the good ol’ LG Ego in s39. do you have any other suggestions moving into s40 in correlation with the roster reset, or management?
There needs to be more incentives to own. It's tough enough to babysit and manage for 82 games under the current rules. Most people want to play with their friends. Bring back paid AGM at a high salary so teams can start with a core group to build with.
Yeah i’m divided on the pAGM thing, since some guys struggle to even get a GM. If we had 32 good owners then nobody would have this issue, but I doubt we will ever have that. And then guys who can’t get a pAGM worth that contract, go into bidding at a disadvantage since i’d assume they aren’t forced to use the pAGM, so they are stuck bidding high salaries on a weaker talent pool.
Also, if I'm selected for the committee. I'm going to suggest we remove owners that fail to make the playoffs in a 3 season game cycle.
Best of the best usually go for 8-10 mil, make paid gm 9 mil, this would make every paid gm worth their contract.
The better the Owner/Manager list, the better it is for league parity in multiple ways 1. Less catastrophic contracts out of bidding ( Owners know what they’re doing more, and people will be more content where they land) regardless of the team. 2. The Divisions can be organized appropriately, making it an even playoff race ( Hopefully) 3. Better Owners will just attract better players and commitment to the league. I can sit here all day and post more reasons but I won’t. This being the FIRST season of next gen I think we should try to make it as competitive and fun as it can be. It would be great to see tight races throughout the season and playoffs, instead of predicting the cup candidates before the season even starts! We should do as much as we can to reset this in the best way possible. Good owners, good contracts and a competitive league
Issue with this, is you’d see guys like OwnTheBlue taking pAGM at 2m consistently when he is obviously worth a lot more, all the top DPs would just consistently take pAGM, I mean even Lem would be just 2m
Personally i’m not against it, but it just seems hard to implement since there are always players who are steals and will just stay as a pAGM forever
Paid agm is nice, but I think it may lead to more bad teams. You would have 3 elite players on a handful of teams where that paid agm would probably take owner or gm of a different team. I’m not sure if it would attract enough top players to manage to outweigh the loss of good management teams across the league. It may lead to more lower tiered management teams. Just something to consider.
There will always be people who could take advantage of this system and be cheap pAGM for a long period of time. The only way to truly even the playing field is to set a pre-determined number. The CHL instituted a $3.5m pAGM tag pre-bidding a couple seasons ago which has worked very well. Given the $35m cap and the premium for high end talent in the NHL that number should be much higher, but it would give more top players who are scared to go $10m to a dump a reason to sign up. Sure this would create some VERY good teams, but more than likely it would encourage more top players back into the league in management roles.
The paid AGM is a huge incentive for top talent. Food for thought … Make the PAGM spot an owners choice option - PAGM’s are at a SET PRICE pre-bidding - Forwards 5,000,000 - Def 6,000,000 - Goalie 1,500,000 This now does things now on multiple fronts. - Gives incentive to top players who want their friends pre-bidding. - Finally allows goalies an option to manage again without hindering their teams salary cap. - Owners who chose not to use the slot pre-bidding have more free cap space to use. Now there’s an actual strategy for teams and managers to discuss when it comes to building up their new teams.
These salaries would create too much gap from top teams to fringe teams, someone like me could get a 5m player as the pAGM, but a top player could easily get a 11m guy and save 6m in cap
