Can't get connected I really want to sign up the first tourny here but I just got Live and tried all night to connect with no success. I'd sign up but I don't know if I'm ever gonna get this thing goin'.
Yeah edge, what type of connection are you trying to do? Direct connection to you broadband modem or are you going through a router etc. We may be able to help you get going. There are many knowledgable people here.
Well, I'm at work now until later today so I may not get the exact error messages right, but here goes. I'm connecting through Adelphia cable via a wireless router (Microsoft MN-700) and the xbox wireless-g adapter(MN-740). The first step was hooking up the adapted and according to the xbox I'm receiving a good signal from the router. Next I put in the starter kit to connect to live. It says it can't connect and does a troubleshoot. I tried connecting with the IP and DNS set to automatic and I'm getting some sort of DNS error popup. When I go back(B) it looks like it recognizes the cables but a red circle is next to the IP Address, so I'm not sure if it's an IP problem or DNS. I've tried changing some settings with manual IP's and such with no luck. I did try bypassing the router and doing a direct connect with the modem but only once and I'm not sure what my settings were. I guess I'll play with the direct connect more to try and troubleshoot. Any Ideas? Thanks
Reboot your wireless adapter with your xbox on, unplug it and plug it back in. On your xbox, switch it to manual configuration and put the gateway and DNS values in manually, then switch it back to DHCP. Make sure to let your router deal w/ PPPoe settings and not your xbox, you should be using DHCP for that. Is there some sort of admin panel on your computer for regulating the wireless adapter?
OK - I got it. I guess I didn't power down my modem. I just turned it off instead of unplugging. I unplugged tonight and it worked. I guess I'll try aand sign up now, hope its not too late. Thanks for help guys
