If you dig a hole in the ground, that’s 1 hole. If you dug a hole all the way THROUGH something, that’s 2 holes. A straw has 2 holes.

a hole means the absence of material. there is only 1 volume in a straw without material, therefore, there is only 1 hole, which is continuous through the straw.

An ideal straw has no holes. It is a pipe. Technically...a straw has one hole but technically, it does not.
If you think of a straw as a rectangle that is wrapped into a cylindrical shape, you could say a straw has no holes in it.
if you flattened a straw that was standing vertically it would have the shape of a donut, how many holes does a donut have?
i prefer to think of it as a very small plastic tunnel/pipe

I say two openings, two ways to get in or out, it should be two holes. Tye real question is which hole are you putting your mouth on? The straws' mouth hole orrrr.....
