Roster Reset for NHL 17 . . . Yes or No

INTRODUCTION
The media team is trying to take a new direction this season by bringing up hot topics around the league. With the trade deadline approaching and teams moving their players they like to playoff teams or helping out their other buddies in MGMT which seems to happen every summer season the question is brought up . . . SHOULD THERE BE A ROSTER RESET?


THE REASONING
LG has had a roster reset every NHL since the merger. VHL did not do roster resets and the only reason roster resets happened on LG is bc NHL15 was suppose to be on the Xbox One but it ended up not having EASHL and then we reset again for NHL16 bc it was in fact on Xbox One and had EASHL in it. Now EA has dealt us a shitty hand these last 2 seasons and it has influenced the league, roster resets, captain delay, no lobbies all leading to headaches for MGMT as well as new rules such as resigns, contract years issued and a few other things to help teams be able to build their teams and to help DEFLATE bidding.

THE DEBATE
There has been much debate in the MGMT forums about people wanting to reset rosters VS people not wanting to reset them. There are a number of Pros and Cons and we will go over them here and then a poll will be posted gauging the players opinion on the matter.

PROS
- The League can re-pick Owners and GMs
- Possibly eliminate unsuccessful owners if we have more/better quality applicants
- More quality applicants will apply for MGMT
- Possibility of better people taking MGMT for fear of bidding
- Bad teams being taken over by MGMT not returning have a chance to compete based off their decisions, not prior MGMTS poor decisions

Players/Contracts/Balance of Power
- Everyone will be back in bidding
- Salaries will be better well balanced
- The league can better balance the divisions, based off of MGMT teams, compared to just giving 1st come 1st serve to team selection
- Bad contracts will be eliminated
- Multi-year AHL contracts eliminated
- Summer season BS trades eliminated
- Summer season rental players eliminated (could still happen if theres always a roster reset though as well)



CONS
Mangement
- MGMT teams threatening to not return bc they have to get their guys through bidding again and they could go for more
- MGMT teams actually not returning
- MGMT teams losing out on a team they worked hard on to build (dynasty)

Contracts
- Good contracts eliminated
- Guys signed longer term contract gone
- Players who were on great contracts and producing contracts will go up (is that a con though?)
- Draft Pics traded for become useless

I don't think there should be a roster reset.

That being said, if there is a roster reset, teams should be able to "protect" 3 players(contracts) of their choice. Wouldn't be fair to the owners who have a few "steals" if those guys went back into bidding..

There should be reset because it would bring back many good players that left cause of captain lag and other game bullshit. Management will finally be good on all teams. Owners won't quit because of the reset because they live for the game. But what do I know, I just saw more pros than cons . It really doesn't matter because Pittsburgh is gonna be sick every season. I wonder what people would think of a reset but with free agm?

 

No and it would be horrible to do that when people just signed for multi season deals not knowing ahead if their would be a reset. If we plan to do a reset in the future, it needs to be decided upon before the summer season

 

We'll if they signed a 2 season deal on a shitty team they would happy for the reset right?

 

I honestly think there should be. But every team gets to save up to 2 contracts. I know so many people that will come back because of this

Reset that shit, clean slate everything.

The league has been going in a downward direction for multiple reasons, lets work on one way to change that direction.

Besides, it feels like 90% of the league wants to get traded anyways, and Rehanek knows mad people that would come back if you reset it.

 

Past roster resets have certainly fixed the problems caused by poor management practices. I'm sure another roster reset would fix the current problems and that we wouldn't just have another reset in a season or two.

If you're going to go down this road, LG needs to stop modeling itself after professional hockey leagues and just do FNP-style drafting every season. What's the point of a multi-season contract if they can be voided at any time en masse?

 

You forgot a Con. Probably the most important one.

Roster resets cause an embarrassing amount of contracts to be Inflated in the next two bidding sessions. For example DeceasedGoblins contract of 14mil. Yeah the first season is probably the best you can have contract wise but it's horrid the next two.

I also took a quick look at rosters. Most teams only have 2-4 multiyear contracts anyway and a lot of those our DPs. I look around and I only see a few bad 2 year contracts.

So my question is, What's stopping these players from coming back anyway? Hardly any "top end" players are under contract.

 

Stops them from coming back season 1 in 16. You had the best forward in 16 go for 7.5 (@Trobs ) and then the following season you had so many go above that. You will continue to have people go for 12 mil because people won't come back because there scared of it. So 1. We have players who don't deserve a lot going for a lot and then you don't have players coming back because they know they will go for a lot

 

That's the problem. They are scared. So instead of all these players signing up and making bidding more balanced, only a few do. Making bidding outrages because only a few top players sign up. @Rehanek

 

Roster Resets keep smart owners from returning because they are essentially being punished for building teams that are better over a long period of time. You do roster resets you essentially make Summer season a bigger joke than it already is. I don't feel like typing a novel about this now, but looking back at the roster reset that we had, the long term ramifications were far worse than good.

None of these top players are under contract. Hardly anyone is under contract. So all they have to do is sign up together and it basically a reset. Let's not hurt the new owners who have built a competitive team.

 

All that is smart management vs dumb management. Reset won't help bad management bid up bad players too high and not place bids on good players. Management is about player knowledge and knowing who you want to get. It's just like real hockey some people get really high contracts and some don't. Only thing resets did was have people not play summer season cuz they knew It didn't matter cuz a reset was coming

 

If roster resets were a thing then I wouldn't have players like @Fr33kOnTheStix carrying my team. Summer seasons would be a lot shittier.
