Wingels' ELO Power Rankings AHL W2 - Let's see how this goes in the AHL. Welcome to my ELO Ratings/Power Rankings.Might do this in a more bi weekly thing, but we will see on the reception. Here’s how it works: Spoiler: Explanation This rating system is similar to an ELO system that you may find in games like Chess and online games that have a matchmaking system ie; Overwatch and League of Legends. The system calculates a rating based off chosen stats that are weighed based on importance for each position. These stats are, in order of priority for forwards: Scoring Factor (SF) which is the percentage of goals that a player contributes to when on the ice. Points per Game Goals For per Game (GF/GM) Time on Attack For (TOAF) Winning Percentage, with OTL being half a win. Goals Against per Game (GA/GM) Time on Attack Against (TOAA) LARGE JUMP Giveaways - Takeaways per game, the lower the number the better Shots per Game Goal Support For defenders: Goals Against per Game (GA/GM) Time on Attack Against (TOAA) Winning Percentage, with OTL being half a win. Goals For per Game (GF/GM) Time on Attack For (TOAF) Points per Game LARGE JUMP Giveaways - Takeaways per game, the lower the number the better Shots per Game Goal Support For goalies, stats included will be: Win% Save % Goals Against Average (GAA) Shots against per game The "average" player will have a rating of 1000. Above that is better than average while lower will be below average. Each number is calculated by determining how good a player is in a stat compared to the median, which the middle value, which represents the "average" player in a stat. Players that are better than the median will have a higher number after calculations, while it will be lower if below average. Example: The median for Points per Game is about 1.7 for forwards, so if a player has a points per game of 2.0, then the player is in theory, performing better than the average forward, and thus will have a higher rating. Each stat is then put into a formula to find the total rating. Most stats require the player to be higher than the median to be considered a positive factor, but G-T/GM, TOAA and GA/GM require the player to be below the median to be considered positive, as the lower number in these stats the better. There is also a coefficient to raise the rating to a 1000 average ELO system, which is different for each league/position. Example Calculation for a CHL F: SF+GS+TOAF+TEAMPTS%+PTS/GM+Shots/GM-G-T/GM+GF/GM-GA/GM-TOAA x CHL F coefficient Upper leagues also get a multiplier due to an increase in overall skill, which is as follows: AHL: +25% NHL: +35% FAQ: 1. Why is my team lower in this than the actual standings? - It could be because some teams may be under performing, or your team just hasn’t had the statistical success compared to others ie; TOA, Shots and goal differential. It also takes into account your S32 statistics in a 60% S32, 40% S33 scale, in order to balance out major over and under performers compared to a full season of play. 2. How long does this take you to do? - About 2-3 hours for initial setup, but once I have everything setup, about 90 mins or so. 3. Why do you hate my team? - Because I have emotional issues. Thanks for reading! Let me know if I should keep doing it here in the AHL! Any feedback is appreciated! Support the news team, like, comment & share your thoughts on their work

Great chart. I’d use 60% S33 and 40% S32 because teams and lines change so much between seasons. Using 60% of a value that may not represent the true story of “current time” seems a bit too much in my opinion. And one last comment (sorry), I’d add format for median and average of each category.
