ok ok where to start: One timers is so hard to do, you could do a perfect pass through the crease that would be a sure goal in 2k4 but are very doubful of going in in 2k5. I find i score more one timers to the glove side, It almost feels like the blocker side is now invinsible and the glove is their weak spot. The Slap-shot goals are basicly useless in this game, the goals don't really come out to challenge you so they don't leave much open. I find the swoop is the best way to score. Also the player movement kinda feels like Rivals. takes them awhile to get going and they will quickly lose momentium if a pass isn't right on their stride. Also passing when you just get the puck is now impossible, you have to wait til you have posission before you can pass. The camera zooms i find are terrible, there's about 20-40 clicks for this slider and it's so hard to find the same point each time. One thing that really bothering me is you can no longer steak the puck like you could on defence in 2k4. It's almost inpossible to take the puck away unless you poke or check which really hurts defence. This is my biggest learning curve. Also doing the "skate backwards and r-stick poke" is really hard to master, they either skate right by you or they pull up and you skate all the way past the goalie. Be fore warned, there's a HUGE slowdown after and during faceoff's. The frame rate basicly drops to 2 frames a second and there's basicly a half second of time you can't see. Doing anything off the face off is a complete guess.
I haven't been able to find it here yet, but will look some more today. Tris it sounds like you aren't exactly thrilled with a bunch of the changes. Do you think with what you've played so for EA's NHL 05 has a better chance of being the game of choice than you figured before playing 2k5
Well it's not that i'm not thrilled is it just takes some time t oget used to . For example i was playing derek last night and i know he would always come in solo and try a swoop kinda cool, and no matter what i couldn't stop it because it was almost impossible to take the puck, it was driving me nuts because defence is a lot harder. As for Ea's game, there's about a 2% chance we'll end up using it
I'll post some in-depth impressions tonight after I play the game more, but so far I'm liking it alot. Widescreen is back, online profiles are back, online cutscenes and replays are back too. I played 3 games just now, game speed of 3, 6min periods and it seemed pretty good. The new controller setup is a bit weird though, you have to hold L trigger to skate backwards.

how in the hell do u score... philiprivers and i played a freakn all-star mini rink game and the final score was 1-0.... the quick slapper doesnt work...swoop doesnt work... one timers dont work...slappers dont work
swoop or quick slapper? I'm almost a 100% the quick slapper doesnt work so what I'm asking is are you talking about the wrist/swoop shot?
I've seen the quick slapper go in once or twice. But yes I was talking about the wrist/swoop shot, it works.
I jsut played a friend online and he scored 4 of his 5 goals by doing that swoop move. Not sure what skill level you guys play on but we were playing on pro I think it was, so maybe and hopefully it doens't work as much on the higher levels.
I'll have to play him again on all star to see if it works as easily for him as it did earlier. Hopefully not becaseu without those goals it would have been quite a game.
Only played a few games now.... PROS: -Online features...online leagues / stats / ESPN Messaging, etc. -The in-game sound is GREAT! (DD 5.1, sound effects are great, tape to tape passes, etc.) -Custom Music -Franchise mode is overhauled.... love all the new features (scouting, ahl affilate, etc) -Graphics have been upgraded a lil', some new goalie animations, etc. CONS: -THE FACEOFF SLOWDOWN that everyone is talking about.... it sucks, online and offline.... I don't understand why this didn't get addressed, its REALLY annoying and make faceoff's a lottery.... [-( -Not much in the form of updated commentary, sounds like I am playing 2K4, other than the great sound effects... Not much more bad to say about this for $30CDN, a steal.... but the faceoff thing is really annoying me.. i'm sure i'll find other things that annoy me, but for now its all good
Well CanEHdian, in seasons 1-3 there was slider adjustment allowed, so they played Pro and changed sliders to make it more realistic. I think maybe that sliders are back now, they may go back to it, but who knows. After one game with MGM, I saw the faceoffs, and it sucked. Apart from the lag we had, with nobody else using our connections but us playing, it was fun.
I have to say, this game should top EA again, skating looks great, and I love it. Finally the perfect hockey game? I think so... I just love everything about it, forget Madden and NCAA. However, the rosters are complete crap even if they released the game early. But this game is amazing. The faceoff slowdown isn't terrible, but everything else about this game is just awsome. I love it.
