Goalie Problems (Desperation Saves)

To all Goalies,

So when you see a cross crease forming, your instinct is to first use use a desperation save (Right Analog Stick) to quickly move over and stop the shot. The desperation save will work if you only use the right analog stick, but if you use BOTH your analog sticks and move them in the same direction your goalie will either:

1.) Make the whimpiest attempt to slide over and make it about halfway across the net.

or

2.) Your goalie WONT EVEN MOVE and just stay sitting in the butterfly position until you let go of both your analog sticks.

This is a huge problem, why? Because when your desperation save instincts kick in you're going to use your right analog stick to slide over. Yeah, so? Well guess what, you're also going to use your Left Analog Stick. The left analog stick is basic muscle memory you can hardly control, you use it 24/7 to MOVE.

So why can I not move and slide over for a desperation save when I use both of my analog sticks???? Literally, both of the analog sticks are for moving. It makes no sense.

Does anyone else have this problem when using this desperation save? Or even an explanation.

Anyone else think butterfly goalie reacts much quicker when using the RS? (I'm guessing this has to do with the reflex boost)

I've always been a stand up goalie, but been recently testing out other builds, the desperation save in butterfly just 'feels' more effective to me.

 

What's a right stick?

 

I have witnessed that before.. but I don't think it's always like this. See the clip above from last night, I used desperation, and I am pretty sure I would have used LS as well, turned out great.

I do have other scenarios where the goalie just stand still

 

Yeah I feel likes it's 50/50 because there are time where you guys just won't move till after they've shot and then he flings his glove in the general direction for fan fare but most times it works

 

I hardly ever use the right stick ever

 

I don't chime in very often but I did want to throw some things out there on the goalies this particular post relates to what I have experienced.

Like Keumper said its that moment when you instinctively go into a desperate situation where you toss that right stick in the direction you need to move. There is this animation that takes over that tries to simulate the real life effort it would take to throw your body which creates a slight delay usually resulting in failure. Sometimes I think situationally my goalie freezes and doesn't move. That is usually when I was a fraction of a second late and the skater shooting coupled with the auto animations. All these things trying to happen at the same time can't be calculated by the game and I freeze. It sucks but I know basically the skater beat me so I move on like any G would.

I feel this version by EA sports has given back to the Goalies the chance to be a difference maker. I haven't felt that way since NHL 12 or 13. If I'm being honest 95% of the time if a goal is scored on me its my fault or my opponent doing a great job working me over and or a quality positional tip/ traffic shot. This last patch has really found the best line of give and take that the game can provide in my humble opinion

 

3mil Goalie here, I'm actually having no issues since the new patch so I have no idea what you guys are talking about

I haven't used my right stick playing goalie ever. Not in 8 years.

well lesbihonest, I try it every year a few times and realize its just as useless as it was the year prior.

A. CC is not your pob
B. If you see the play developing anticipate, you don't need right stick to get there.

since the tuner its been fine, but when the game first came out goalie was so good but then they fucked it, i don't use right stick when a cross crease is forming, i just follow it with my left stick and then at the last moment i use right stick but I'm not relying on it is what i mean to say, desperation saves suck now bc 75% of the time they never save it.

BTW another question, do yalls goalies get stuck in the middle of the net looking the other way when the puck handler is going for a wrap around and your goali3e can't make it to the post in time??

that has only happened to my like once. Wraps have died down quite a bit since 16.

yeah they need to fix this in the next tuner bc it is frustrating as hell bc u can't do anything about it.

 

I have had this "delay" problem too @Darcy Kuemper. I had originally thought it was my connection. But everything you have said and other have written make a lot of sense. I'm going to do some independent testing in drop ins and see what happens.

 

It's been like that for a few game iterations, its only more apparent now since the new meta. Just remember to grab both triggers like you're goign to VH and move over as it will put you on that post stand animation without hugging the post, it also doesn't allow you to slide out of the crease.

 

EA also "confirmed" there's no ice tilt or momentum in this game, so take that one with a giant grain of salt.

 

Where did EA say all the builds are the same?

I definitely notice a difference in movement between the builds so I'd be hellaciously interested in reading that.
