    Whats up fellas -

Can anyone help me hit in MVP baseball. I play on the All-Star difficulty and am having a hell of a time scoring runs. The only runs I have scored have been HR's. My highest scoring game was 5...and all HR's. I switch to Pro difficulty and score around 10 runs and strikeout 10 guys. Theres no happy medium. Any help would be appreciated. I am starting to get very frustrated and I am now 3-10 on my season with the Angels.

Secondly, is anyone else having lag problems with MVP baseball when played Online? It seems I have to hit the pitch button 1 second earlier and the swing button about 1-2 seconds earlier Online vs. Offline. Its very annoying going from playing Online to Offline. The difference is amazing and almost unplayable.

    Thanks!! 8)

    Re: Hitting Problems

I get the same thing. Once you get the timing down, it's nice. I just pray that I can get through the first inning in an online game. I'm all over the place. It would be cool to have a "warmup" mode online. Allow the pitcher to throw a few before the game starts. It could be a split screen for both players and they each get 10 pitches. I know that will never happen, but wouldn't that be great?

I have advice, have awesome pitching. I just went 10 innings and won the game on an inside the park HR because the guy dove for the ball and missed it. Pedro went 10 for the W. =D

My hitting is horrible, I'm having a lot of trouble.

Smoke - I never play offline, in any game, so I can't help you there (as far as settings vs the CPU or timing issues).

if you goto the operationsports.com forums, there are active discussions there on single player settings (they have a whole forum for this game, and others).

I finally found my MVP manual, (it's been missing for a while...I have 2yr old y'know)...anyways I'm confused about this statement on hitting:

    Pg 11 - Batting TIPS

"Keep in mind that the EA SPORTS Pure Swing System tells hitters how to hit the ball, not where to swing. For example, moving 'L' up for a high pitch performs an uppercut swing-it doesn't aim for the pitch up in the zone."

I don't understand this as you still will be "aiming" for the ball since inside pitches are an easier pitch to pull, low balls are easier to hit grounders, etc. I don't get the difference other than that you might not want to hit a ground ball...but if the pitch is low in the zone...there's not a lot you can do about it.

Thanks for the help guys..and thanks for the website Xboxjon. I just played my fourth game in a row with my Angels dynasty and did not score one run through four games on All-Star setting. Im ready to throw the controller through the window. I am patient, wait for pitches, but when i make contact it is a line drive to someone or a pop-up. I cant stand it. I have tried everthing. The sad part is that I love this game and it actually feels like a game vs. ESPN's arcade style game. Well, one thing is for sure, when you play me online it is a for sure win for the other guy. 8)

Why don't you just bump the setting down to pro until you being to crush the AI?

"Aiming" I think refers to a batting system like the old Sega/ESPN MLB game, where it was more like missle command. You aim your cursor where the ball is going and if you can follow it perfectly and match up your circle to the ball location, you make good contact.

With MVP, it's not aiming at all. Like the manual says, holding up produces an uppercut swing. I've hit HR's and fly balls (for a sac fly) by holding up, even if the pitch is low. If you absolutely want to hit a ground ball (maybe the IF is playing in or you want to hit and run), then holding down will product a downward swing (again, you can hit grounders if it's a high or low pitch... but obviously the lower pitches are easier to hit down).

Same with Inside/Outside swings. If you try and pull an outside pitch by swinging inside, the hitter will sort of step in the bucket and probably make bad contact... but he WILL pull that ball if you timed it. Same with outside swings when you're wanting to go the other way.

I think your right on the money with your analogy of swinging the bat Jon, I'm also having a ton of trouble hitting, but I won my first game online..:) I play with the Indians though, so I kind of expect to have a little trouble..I think it's all timing, timing, timing!

I give up man, I just lost my 9th straight game on the All-Star setting with sliders adjusted to help me make contact. I have been averaging .2 runs a game. It looks like I have a new drink coaster for my coffee table.

Its funny though, when I put in ESPN and score 10+ runs...lol

Try rookie or pro man. The all-star A.I. is brutal at first.

Try Rookie or Pro for MVP. The hitting shouldn't be that hard. What team are you using?

As for ESPN, you're not getting 10+ runs on All-Star or Legend. All the games we have tested on those settings for ESPN have been low scoring games (1-0, 2-0). Most have gone into extra innings. The game defaults to Rookie unless you load your settings.

You're right Shush, it is the default setting. I tried Pro last night and won my second game in the bottom of the 19th inning and tied at 0-0. For some reason, I just cant score. I mean almost 20 innings with no runs on the Pro setting..??? Im definitely doing something wrong.

I'm in the same boat Smoke, If i'm lucky I can score 1 run, and the A.I. scores atleast 6. I can hold them off within the first half of the game with pitching, but I can't even hit a ball to the warning track...It's getting frustrating, but I think I'm starting to get a feel for swinging inside out, and vice-versa.

yeah, it can be VERYYYYY frustrating. Lst night I won my 3rd game 6-1 using the Angels (Kennedy is a joke, he can hit better than Vlad). I used Pro but I was very, very patient and decided to not swing at any first pitch unless it was just dead center and it worked. I got deap into counts and chose pitches to swing out very carefully. I only swung at strikes and it seems to help (imagine that). I still only hit doubles in the gap and some singles up the middle. Im not hitting it down the lines and such, but I wll try what Jay said and swing with the ball..practice makes perfect.

PS: Its wierd, but I only hit HR's when i swing normal with no uppercut. When I uppercut it usually just pops it up..:?

Are you guys serious? I think it's way harder to hit in ESPN. At least in MVP you can turn on the Hitters Eye, or Batters Eye, whatever it's called, and you can at least tell what kind of pitch is coming. Having that on has helped a lot in MVP. ESPN still baffles me :?

Yeah, ESPN is no doubt harder to hit in. With MVP, it's only about timing. With ESPN, you actually have to aim the left thumbstick and time it right.
