As we near the launch of NHL 24 I wanted to touch base with the community to give some insight into some of the changes we are making to the league coming into the next three seasons of the LGHL.

    League Structure Changes
    • With the addition of full cross play for NHL 24 we now have the ability to combine the Xbox and PSN community into one super league. Therefore regardless of what console a player owns all of our signups will be placed into the same bidding session!
    • For this coming season we will see the return of organizational structure. This means our NHL Owners will be able to select their own AHL GM!
    • New to our structure the season will be the addition of the ECHL which will slot in directly under the AHL and above our current CHL format. The ECHL will be home to 32 teams, four of which we will be adding ourselves. With this new addition, we will also be placing the responsibility for ECHL GM selection onto the AHL GM. Therefore our organizational flow moving forward will be NHL >> AHL >> ECHL.
      • NHL TC will be made up of the AHL roster/TC
      • AHL TC will be made up of the ECHL roster/TC
      • ECHL TC will be made up of the late signups that ARE NOT prospects and players who did not get selected in the NHL/AHL/ECHL bidding sessions.
      • Our goal is to bring back the team atmosphere among the three top tiers by having the three leagues work together within their organization.
    • The CHL will be directly below the ECHL and will be made up of Veteran or Prospect players. *amateur status will be eliminated, more details below*
    • There will be a set number of protections given to the AHL and ECHL managers after bidding.
    • Bidding sessions access will be determined by:
      • NHL bidding access will be selected by the NHL Owner
      • AHL bidding access will be selected by the AHL GM
      • ECHL bidding access will be selected by the ECHL GM.

    Partnership with NHL Organizations

    • New to this coming season is our partnership with our current NHL Esport ORGs and the LGHL. This has started to filter out via our social media channels.
    • What this means for the LGHL is:
      • As we get commitment from an Esports ORG, we will be replacing the LGHL team branding with the Esports team branding. IE: LG San Jose Sharks will become SJ Sharks Gaming.
    • Our short term goals continue to be to support our NHL partnerships by providing content for their gaming brands.
    • Long term, I'd love to see this grow into the NHL tier of the LGHL becoming a complete 32 team Esports branding league similar to what the 2k NBA league has grown into. Ideally for NHL teams that are dipping their toes into this space, LG would be able to provide the NHL ORG a vetted, quality community ambassador that could help build out the branding via the LGHL and even by participating within the sponsored events that we have planned through the game cycle.
    • Overall we are excited to bring these opportunities to our community and are looking forward to what this could grow into.

    Management Applications

Game Times - 9:00-9:35-10:10 - NHL, AHL, and ECHL Game Times

    • Moving into next season all leagues are going to move to the SAME game times!
    • Official game times will be 9:00, 9:35, and 10:10.
    • Spacing between games will be 35 minutes to allow for extra time if there are lag outs, or if a game ends up in overtime.
    • The current rules DO NOT allow a player scheduled for their active league to be used as an ECU for a tier above.
    • Therefore, there are no concerns from Staff that having consistency in game times will have any effect on ECU gathering.
    • For the coming season the CHL game times will remain 8:30-9:05-9:40 but there will be discussions to move the CHL to the same times as the above leagues for overall consistency.
    IR Forfeit Rules
    • The current IR forfeit procedure is going to be completely revamped to ensure it is less workload for the Managers and Staff.
    • Our overall goal is still to ensure players are showing up to their games but still allow some flexibility if issues occur that may have caused a player to not show up.
    • More information will be released after our management selections are completed.
    CHL League Structure
    • We are currently exploring making the CHL a 64-team league made up of four leagues, with each league having 16 teams per league.
    • Moving the CHL to 64 teams allows us to run four even leagues, thereby adding consistency to the playoff format at all four leagues as well as stabilizing the Memorial Cup format.
    • Four additional teams will also create 68 additional active roster spots.
    • More information will be released about this structural change in the near future.
The Removal of Amateur Status - Extension of Prospect Status
    • Coming into our next bidding status we will be utilizing our grandfathering clause, therefore ANY player who currently would carry an Amateur or Prospect status will be eligible for our next NHL bidding session that kicks off on October 20th.
      • All current Amateur players will be grandfathered to Veteran status
      • All current Prospects who are won in NHL, AHL, or ECHL bidding will be grandfathered Veteran status.
        * if they are not won in one of those bidding sessions, the player will retain their Prospect status *
    • Moving forward Prospect players will now have to complete 72 games (3 seasons) in the CHL or NCAA in order to be granted Veteran status.
    • The only other player status we will be using moving forward will be DP1 and DP2.
      • This is our designation for our Drafted players in the first year of their contract [DP1] or the second season of their draft contract [DP2].
    • Veteran players are eligible to play in all five tiers.
    • Prospect players will be restricted to the NCAA and the CHL.
    • Drafted players will be eligible for the NHL, AHL, and ECHL.
      • If a DP is unable to make a roster in the top three tiers and is sent back to the CHL, the Drafted player will not be call-up eligible for the duration of the season.
    NHL Second Chance Draft
    • Any Veteran player who is passed over in NHL, AHL, and ECHL bidding and lands on a roster in the CHL will be eligible for the NHL Entry Draft as long as the player participated in the CHL for the duration of the season AND was not won in NHL, AHL or ECHL bidding then send down to the CHL.
    • If a Veteran is taken in the Draft, the player is required to stay in the position the player played during the last season.
      • For example, if I finish the season as a LW, and I am Drafted I am only eligible to play LW the following season.
    • We no longer will allow Drafted players to change their positions.
    Playoff Game Times
    • We will be aligning the playoff times with the new seasonal time format.
    New Stuff Coming
    • If you've been following our X account, Tris has been slowly leaking some of the updates that are coming to our mobile app. We are hoping to have a full reveal in the coming weeks.
    • Some updates will be coming to our official discord that will allow us to between link your team roles on the website to your roles within our channel.
    • Currently the UX flow for our brand new signups is under review to better help with site navigation.
