Bad cities, no not really, bad streets, but i wouldn't ever be affaird to walk down them alone at night or anything
My friend who use to live in Memphis was telling me about some streets there that if you on after dark you were almost gauranteed to be beaten robbed or murdered....
hell there are town in the south that they will still shoot you if you are the wrong color and are on there street after dark.
Maybe thats true maybe that isn't. I just think you guys buy into media way to much, and in return you are very acceptible to fear and this i think is what is the bigger problem with America. If anything is going to get better, it needs to start at the individual level, so don't always think in fear....
This has nothing to do with the media...this is from first hand experience...one of my friends was mugged walking to bus stop last year...
Exactly...I would like to think everyone is good and very few people are affected by robery muggings and murders but I live in a big @$$ city and you can walk around like that or you will get messed up. Not that dallas is extremely dangerous and you should watch your back or anything but you shouldnt be that naive and think nothing will happen to you.
Yeh Phoenix is a pretty safe town unless of course you run into a guy running around in pink boxers. I have been down town a couple of times and havent seen anything that I would be too afraid of, but like MP said you cant be naive
Oh the one big problem is car theft though since we are soo close to the border. That and there are a lot of nice cars here
Most of these stories are usually just that, stories. Stuff like, "My friend told me if you go down 4th street, you will get raped". That is naive to think that way. As long as you mind your won business, and don't go anywhere where you know you shoudn't, you wont have to worry about anything.
The greater St. Louis metro area has ~3 million people total, but I've never personally had any problems robbery, theft, etc. I've accidently left my garage door open all day and have come home to find nothing wrong. I live in the suburbs though, and not the city or projects, so like most big cities each part of town has it's really nice areas and really bad areas. St. Louis has one of the worst (E. St. Louis) for crime, but I can count on my hand how many times I've been there in 30yrs. I guess it's where you choose to go out at night that's going to expose you to potential harm and "that" element.
Yeah, as long as you are safe, then you shoudn't worry. Just dont start shouting profanities in the ghetto - which is something that MP just might do,
i dont need the media to tell me that there is a violent crime problem, i ve seen someone 15 feet away from me get shot in the chest with a shotgun and die(in wash DC). just last week, behind where i work, and where once in awhile i take out the trash, there were shots fired. tris, there are parts of the US where, if people that live in that neighoborhood dont know you, you have a good chance of being killed, beaten, robbed, etc. its not the media, its does actually happen. my roommate(a large black man) is from a part of houston where i could never go if i wasnt with him. i used to work bartend and work security at a club downtown, i got jumped by 3 guys when i was locking up the place, too bad for them, they didnt know there were 2 of my doorguys right inside the door. we beat the hell out of them, then they came back with guns and waited for us in the parking lot, so we called the cops stuff like this does happen, not like it happens all the time, but it happens enough
