wow, gotta give the Exe's at EA credit.

But i never really liked the ESPN brand, especially for hockey. Lets get some Sega CBC Hockey Night in Canada going on now!

I mean for hockey, what else is there? ABC's deal is dead and they are linked to ESPN, NBC has yet to broadcast a game of NHL so... What's left?

The best ESPN presentation is in MLB. At least Sega still has that for 2005. This really doesn't change anything. EA will still produce garbage and consumers will continue to lose.

It was only a matter of time. Kind of weird that Madden works for ABC and ABC owns ESPN. That license had a limited shelf life for Sega.

Wow, this is funny. EA is going to be the only developer left soon if they keep this up. I gotta hand it to them though, what they are doing is very, very smart!

I thought Tiger Woods was garbage and FIFA also. I haven't played the NHL game but I also am not a big fan of this year's NCAA Football. NCAA Football 2004 was a much better game IMO. They have some turd games out there.

wow sega is taking a big blow but they'll still make the same hockey game just under a different name i'll be happy with just Sega Sports NHL 2k6 wasn't that big of a fan of ESPN anyhow this deal just loses the name for sega but not game quality plus there commetaters sucked anyways so its not that bad if u think of it plus in the long run the only ppl losing out is ESPN cause if EA continue making the worst NHL game then ppl ain't gonna buy the game even if it says ESPN lol so it could be a win/win situation for sega as they won't have to dish out money for the espn license as ppl already know there quality of games maybe now they can just go with sega sports like it use to be i can care less of the espn brand but i still like tris cbc idea that will be sweet with harry neal and bob cole :D now that will be something.
As long as its not TSN's Bob mackenzie LMAO... TSN would be a good brand too but due to the canadian names i doubt they'll do it.

It does seem EA has learned a lot of lessons from Microsoft, namely

If you can't beat them, buy them.

What's shocking is not the buying of the ESPN license. I mean, it was up for bid after this year anyway, but that they got it for 15 years! That's like 3-4 more console life cycles. Whoa.

This will pretty much crush VC/Sega Sports I bet. They'll make these final games in 2005 (2006 branded titles, still with ESPN) and then bow out and do nothing on the XBox 2 or other next gen consoles.

Just because they lose the ESPN license? What if Sega picks up Fox/CBS/NBC sports license or individually contracts with sports journalists not affiliated with ABC? I don't think losing the ESPN brand will have any impact on whether they continue to make sports games.
