good lord PSN blows chunks. 45 minutes later...15% tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..tick..... i dont know how long the Tiger 09 DL took this morning on XBL - i clicked DL before i left for work, but i'm pretty sure it was less than 5 hours, which is how long the NHL2K9 demo is going to take at this rate. and TW09 is 1GB, NHL 650MB. good thing i have both consoles, i can go play Tiger while waiting....
NHL 2k9 downloaded a lot quicker than i thought it would. it only took about a game and a half of a ranked NHL 08 game.
ok the only real problem i have ATM is sometimes the passing will go nowhere near where I am aiming. that kinda bugs me. but overall its still a great demo.
Easy fix, i have the same problem, turn down the "pass assist" Goto controller setup and hit "Y" (or whatever the ps3 button for "Y" is, triangle?)
well someone must have the full version because as i see it, thats not an option on the demo. Unless its somewhere in pregame setup.
Overall, pleasantly surprised. + New controls: Pro stick Evolution is pretty much a copy off 08. No more need to hit a additional button plus the right thumb stick to shoot. + New intro was pretty cool. But I'm guessing it's the same video every game? So after 40 home games you'll be jamming on the X or A(360) button? - I dislike the fact that you are using classic or hybrid controls, you have to hold the shoot button to do a slap shot. But the guy won't bring the stick up to shoot till after you let go of the button. This may be a useless complaint as I really don't remember how to shoot a slap shot using Pro Evolution controls. - Players: God they look terrible. Goalies look like hunchback version of Scott Steiner. The skaters don't look...right either. They aren't terrible, just no way to confuse 2k9 with a real game on tv. Just doesn't look that good. - Why must every poke check/sweeping stick be with two hands? Just looks stupid. Looks like the dudes practicing his golf swing. Overall pleasently surprised with the demo. May have to atleast give it a rent. To be honest, I don't think it can compete with 09. But give VC(that's who took over correct?) a couple more years and I think 2k's hockey game could be as good as it's basketball.
Well i gave it a try. This is the first time ive even played the ps3 version. As you pointed out gpf, There is no second sub menu option in the controls to change to manual aim and turn down the pass assist, This of course is in the final version. I can already see some minor things in the demo that are better in the final version. For us more "hockey sim" playing type, adjusting the sliders will be a must (thank god for sliders in online games and leagues). But overall this is a good peek at what NHL 2k9 has in store!
I spent another hour or so with the demo, and I really really enjoy it. Though I want 09 better this will for sure be a must buy soon after.
from what ive heard was 2k9 was "nothing special" the gameplay is the exact control and the controls are gay
Yeah i played the demo for probably 2-3 hours today. kinda sad lol but it was addicting. Going back and playing NHL 08 right after kinda made it feel like NHL 08 was lacking. EA and 2k might be very equal this year. I cant imagine how good 2k will be once we get manual aim and sliders out the ass.
maybe you should wait an play it. Just judging on the looks of the videos a few days ago i was thinking it wasnt going to be that good. looking, hearing, and playing are totally different things. Playing it today changed my mindset 100%
Man i'm loving this demo can't wait for the full version to come out big improvements from 2k8 thats for sure also funny thing is i played 3 to 4 games before i even noticed all 4 refs were on that ice that is awesome only noticed cause i collided into one of them LOL game feels good gonna be a good year for hockey fans
i didnt really notice the ref thing i guess. but it explains why i have passed or ran into them like 3-4 times today.
