I smoked for 14 years. Have not touched one in 3 and a half years. I agree with everything Swiper says. Many people just don't get the seriousness of this addiction. Good luck to all you quiters and stay strong!!
bout a pack a day going on almost 20 years now, the day I found out my chick was preggo I haven't smoked one in the house since I switched to ultra lights a few years ago, it's a wee bit better than full on tobacco, not much though they do have these new cigs that are supposed to help you stop gradually, "Quest" cigarettes, I've tried going on those and they weren't bad, the problem was they were very hard to find, not alot of stores carry them around here
I'll smoke a cigar once in a while but hate cigarettes. NJ just put the 'no smoking in public' law in effect.
I smoked for a few years in college but quit shortly after that. Yea it was really hard, i dont know how people smoking 10+ years can do it.
What the hell...I'll chime in. I started out as a young kid who SWORE he'd never do something stupid like smoke. I can't really explain why, but I started smoking in college and went through at least a pack a day for almost five years. Upon getting my first teaching job in the Fall of 1996, I quit cold turkey (September 11th, 1996 oddly enough) and stayed completely smoke-free for a couple years. Gradually, though, the occasional "only when I'm drinking" smokes became "oh, what the hell? If yer gonna do it, just do it" smokes and I was back to smoking like a damn chimney. I got married on April 12th, 2000 and swore to my wife that I'd quit. I had my last cigarette while standing in a Mexican airport waiting for my return flight to Denver on April 18, 2000. So there you go, I've been completely cigarette-free for almost 6 years now. And I can now answer the question as: NO And about being on a soapbox, I still get on one from time to time. Even though I'm a former stinker...er, I mean, smoker I am disgusted and appalled by the smell of other people's cigarettes. I absolutely refuse to go into a place where people are smoking. And those damn people that stand by the entrance to a restaurant having their smokes? Are you telling me that I need to walk my little kids through your cloud? And "parents" that smoke in cars or houses with their kids around? Don't even get me started there. I'd best just stop now.
I can't believe, with all of the information we have at our disposal, that there are still public places in this country where people are allowed to smoke. :?
you guys are years behind canada for smoking laws, We have a full ban in all places for smoking. Also have you seen all the graphic images on the packs of cigs we have? Some are quite disgusting
Ya some of the packs up here are crazy. The packs with the "Limp" cigarette is enough to convince anyone to stop smoking.
Here you go GMB. These are all the images that are placed on the cigarette packs. http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/media/photogal/label-etiquette/index_e.html Here is Derek's favorite: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/ahc-asc/media/photogal/label-etiquette/img0004_e.html
Understood, and I do agree with that, but the fact of the matter is smokers have no choice or say in the matter. What exactly would be wrong with a bar or 2 being a "smokers haven"? I just have a problem with the whole "Nazi Germany" way of going about all this
What about the workers that work there? Here in canada they show this commercial of an old women, who worked 25 years in a resturant and never smoked a day in her life... and now she is dying of cancer
Point taken. I'm fine with that, especially as an empathetic former smoker. I remember the infinite pleasure of having a smoke while out having beers, so I can appreciate why people want to smoke. However, non-smoking establishments should have a "halo" rule about outside smokers. I hate having to walk through the "cloud of death" with my kids just to get into the grocery store.
I had a layover in Salt Lake once. They have what I dub the smoker's aquarium. It's a glass cube in the middle of the airport terminal. It's quite possibly the most sickening thing I've ever seen. You don't need to light up...just go take a huff and walkout, gotta be at least a pack worth of second hand smoke.
